Greening SMEs

Strategies for greening SMEs are usually sector-specific, reflecting the environmental risk-profile of the sector concerned. EaP countries have given little consideration to the greening of small businesses, and the legal, policy and institutional means to enhance their environmental performance is lacking. Ongoing activities under EaP GREEN focus on: preparing an SME greening toolkit based on international, particularly EU, experience, and developing two or three sectoral roadmaps; implementing pilot projects in selected EaP countries for establishing the necessary policy framework for greening SMEs; and consulting a wide range of national-level stakeholders to build consensus on the necessary policy measures.
